Breaking News: All Eyes on Tom Price

On February 10th, Tom Price was sworn in as the new Secretary of Health and Human Services. A question that is weighing heavily on my mind is does he have what it takes to change our already dysfunctional healthcare system and more importantly, what are his intentions for the future of our healthcare system?

America's healthcare system has become progressively worse. It seems severely dysfunctional and the saddest part is that it's not even affordable. Amercias require medical care but cannot afford it. The number one thing that has to be done is to cut costs. It's not enough for people to just stay healthy. It is unrealistic.

Many Americans are sick. Statisitics show that about 68 percent of adults are considered obese, 90 percent of seniors have at least one chronic condition, while 75 percent have two or more. Not to mention America's addiction to opiods. Can he fix that todays physicians are burnt out? Can he restore the faith and trust that patients once had in medicine? Can he bring back the physician patient relationship?

Does he even want to fix this? Or are his intentions to dismantle traditional Medicare and line the already thick pockets of private insurance CEOs? I know the future of our healthcare system does not solely rest on PRice, however, let's face it, he now has significant influence. I am hopeful that he will be sensitive to the 20 plus million people that have been insured under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and how that law has impacted their lives.

One thing is clear, if his intentions are to repeal the ACA, it needs to be replaced with something else. Preferably, something that reduces cost and assures great quality care.
